The mind behind Pockets Photography

Charlotte Aitchison, that’s my actual name, ‘Pockets’ is a lovingly adopted nickname in the photography world.

Photography, for me, is about much more than taking a good picture. It's about noticing what's happening around me and recognising the moments that have meaning.

I particularly enjoy working candidly, allowing people to be themselves. It's often the unplanned moments that become the most memorable photographs — a genuine laugh between colleagues, the reaction to an award, a proud family member watching from the audience or two people sharing a moment away from the spotlight.

One recent example was covering a local council ceremony celebrating the FTD brothers as they were awarded the Freedom of the Borough. While the award itself was the centrepiece of the occasion, it was the emotion, pride and reactions surrounding it that really told the story. Those are the moments I look for.

My work also takes me into the corporate world, photographing annual meetings, conferences, events and celebrations for organisations that need professional imagery they can use across their business — from internal communications and reports to websites, social media and press.

Whatever the occasion, I aim to be professional, unobtrusive and approachable, while keeping an eye out for the moments that others might miss.

I don't just want to photograph what happened. I want to capture why it mattered.
